The Truk
The first machine to exit the doors of the SW.
A modification of an old, upright adult trike. Initially, the trike was a shop vehicle at my unit in Holland. I rescued it from the junkyard, and it served duty as a trailer behind my MTB. The kids got too big, and as it was sitting in my shed, the thought came to me...."If I turn it around, add a seat, steering, running gear, etc...voila'..instant tadpole.
Well..it worked, after a fashion. Too heavy. Mucho frame flex, bad brakes. But I was riding. The main problem was the that the crossmember wasn't designed for this particular load. I could make the front end flex down just by pedaling. I could see and feel it. Not good for efficient pedalling. Eventually, a major crack surfaced at the juncture between the main tube and the yoke holding the crossmember. Yes, it could have been rewelded. But it would probably just have cracked again. So its being stripped, possibly for conversion into an SWB.
Thunderbolt The next trike will be an adaptation of Rick Horwitz's Thunderbolt. Not sure if it will be in Alu or CroMo.
Rick's original trike
My rendition of the main frame done in 2x2 square section tube. (More stuff soon) |
